Initiatives/Partnerships West Lothian Strategic Alliance
In 2005 Weslo teamed up with Almond & Horizon Housing Associations and the West Lothian Housing Partnership to form the West Lothian Strategic Alliance (WLSA). The Alliance was appointed as West Lothian Council's development partner to build 600 houses for rent between 2005 and 2008
Empty Homes Initiative
Weslo works with West Lothian Council to purchase and renovate houses which have been vacant for more than 6 months and then rent to applicants from the Council's waiting list. 77 houses have been purchased since 1998 using over £1m of grants from West Lothian Council.
New Housing Partnership
Working with Miller Homes and West Lothian Council, Weslo owns almost half of the 600 houses built in a £30m NHP project completed in 2002 and lets them to Council waiting list applicants. The remainder were sold on the open and low cost home ownership markets.
The Weslo houses cost £15m to build of which West Lothian Council contributed £8.7m through land subsidy and New Housing Partnership grant monies and Weslo's contribution amounted to £6.5m again funded by the Bank of Scotland.
Partnership with other Agencies.
These include West Lothian and Falkirk Councils providing Weslo's emergency after hours repair service and Housing Benefit administration. Strategically Weslo has committed 5% of all relets, potentially 110 units to Homeless families.
A number of lets for care in the community projects have been provided to a variety of agencies and staff maintain close contact with Social Workers and Occupational Therapists to carry out medical adaptations for elderly or disabled tenants. |
